Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha has been the talk of the town since it’s very exciting release on Netflix, on august 28th. But of course, is it worth the watch? Not every K-Drama that’s hyped has become our weekly obsession. But does this tiny seaside romance have the potential to take us on a whirlwind journey of feel good moments? After some very careful observations, I think we do.
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha is not only popular because of it’s fascinating trope of “leaving the city behind”, nor is it just because of the magical attraction we have to seaside life. This K-Drama has multiple reasons why it’s one of the most anticipated series of the week.
For starters, Kim Seon Ho is back again with his lovely charm. We saw his popularity peak as a venture capitalist in his last Kdrama, start-up. Unfortunately, he was not the lead and he did not get the happy ending he deserved. As our great luck turns out, he is here as a well-deserved male protagonist in a typical “good boy” role, where he is all the halmeonis (grandmothers) favourite in Gongjin.
Hong Du-sik, or Chief Hong is a kind hearted soul who does everything from giving piggyback rides to making the world’s best coffee in the town. He is the rock of the tiny seaside town, Gongjin. Children and adults of the town know him as their realtor, barista, carpenter, fisherman, driver, you name it!
If you think Kim Seon Ho’s appearance as the hero is exciting enough, wait till you hear about Shin Min Ah’s comeback. She makes a major comeback to the rom-com scene of the kdrama world after two long years as Yoon Hye Jin, a highly praised beautiful dentist. Yoon Hye Jin moves from the hectiness of Seoul to Gongjin, following a moral dilemma.
People of Gongjin have a feast gossiping about the new arrival of Hye Jin, and Hye Jin has the hardest time getting used to this new lifestyle in the town. It only makes sense that our Chief Hong is her knight shining armour during this tough time, right?
The chemistry between the pair is sizzling hot. It is a wonder that we have never seen the two together on screen. They had me screaming and kicking into the air during their most adorable and funny moments. Coming all the way into episode 8 we have seen them kiss, share a drink and run into the rain together. The lingering touches and looks shared between the leads will have your heart fluttering and jumping.
Speaking of episode 8, we are almost halfway through and you bet that we have a second male lead making Du-sik, AKA Chief hong, a little intimated. Our rising star, Lee Sang-yi is forming up to be a formidable partner in the love triangle that’s slowly budding. His chemistry with both the leads are anything short of fascinating.
There are only a few series that can make me obsessed from the very beginning. Luckily this Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha setting in a small seaside village has been making me very happy every week. So my final call? Get warm under the fuzzy blanket and watch the romance between Du-sik and Hye Jin unfold in the most adorable manner.
